To create this artwork, which pays homage to Tirvengadum’s great-grandmother, the artist conducted research, exploring the Indian indenture system and its impact on the family’s history in Mauritius. During this research, they made a surprising discovery: Tirvengadum’s DNA is linked to an aristocratic French surname, Marrier d’Unienville, which raised some intriguing questions.
The artwork is centered around the artist’s efforts to uncover and comprehend the history of Tirvengadum’s family. To achieve this, the artist used family archival photos, AI-generation and digital painting.
